Pradan’s community cadres joined hands with the local administration in Banspal block of Kendujhar district to help Odisha

As #Odisha faced the dual challenge of #CycloneYaas and pandemic in May last week, Pradan’s community cadres joined hands with the local administration in Banspal block of Kendujhar district to help in the evacuation work.

Banspal block is largely inhabited by the ultra-poor and PVTGs (Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups) like Juang and Paudi Bhuiyan. On the night of May 25, (a day before landfall of the Cyclonic storm, the community cadres assisted the block administration to shift people from kutcha houses to cyclone-safe anganwadi, school and Gram Panchayat (GP) office buildings.


A total of 314 people from 8 G.Ps and 11 villages shifted to safe places before the landfall.
Pradan is a member of the Odisha chapter of the RCRC, a coalition of 65 civil society organizations supporting the rural poor, marginalised communities through direct action, research and policy advocacy, to respond to the devastating disruption caused by COVID-19.
